Book of Psalms 7:1-17                   May 8, 2021 

Who Wrote the Book of Psalms? 

Following are the authors and the number of Psalms attributed to them:

David, 73; Asaph, 12; sons of Korah, 9; Solomon, 2; Heman, 1; Ethan, 1; Moses, 1; and anonymous, 51. 

Date Written:  Approximately B.C. 1440 to B.C. 586. 

In You Jesus, I do Take Refuge 

·      Remember, we are applying Psalms to our own lives, not to David life. Psalms is a prophecy book that is quoted from more than any other book of the Old Testament.  We will see that as we go through Psalms.

·      Psalms was written for us today.

·      Let us look at from a different perspective on how it applies to us.  

·      Always put Jesus’ right in the middle of the Book of Psalms and us, right there.   

This is a trust-filled plea for deliverance 

Psalms 7:1 LORD, My God, I seek refuge in you. Deliver me from those who persecute me! Rescue me! 

Just Means: Psalms 7:1 I come to You, Lord Jesus, for Protection and to Save Me from my Persecutors, Satan and his demons.

What do we have with Jesus 

Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us. 

Two unchangeable things from Jesus are the promise and the oath of Jesus, our Lord, each of which would be a firm ground of the assurance of salvation, and in each of which it would be impossible for God to lie. 

Psalms 7:2 Otherwise, they will rip me to shreds like a lion, tearing me apart with no one to rescue me. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:2 Please, Jesus, do not Allow Satan and his Demons Pounce on Me as a Lion and Drag Me Away 

·      Sometimes Jesus’s strength is evident in helping us through a trial.

·      Other times it is evident in delivering us from trials we have. 

·      We are delivered from the darts of Satan because he wants to destroy the our shield of faith and render us defenseless.

·      That is what Satan wants to do to all the saints.  

Ephesians 6:16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 

Satan, the chief of all persecutors and who instigates individuals against the Saints, and his helpers, the demons are after us with the spirit of Satan 

Now Satan prowls the earth, seeking to hinder all he can from choosing salvation and living a life of obedience. 

1 Peter 5:8 Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 

2 Timothy 4:17-18 However, the Lord stood by me and gave me strength so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the gentiles could hear it. I was rescued out of a lion's mouth.  (18)  The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will take me safely to his heavenly kingdom. Glory belongs to him forever and ever! Amen. 

Jesus by His Word will rescue us. 

The Plea of innocence 

Psalms 7:3 LORD, my God, if I have done this thing, if there is injustice on my hands, 

1 Corinthians 4:4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 

Psalms 7:4 if I have rewarded those who did me good with evil, if I have plundered my enemy without justification, 

Just Means: Psalms 7:4 I Pray that I had not Mistreated Anyone, Betrayed a Friend or Done Cruelty to My Enemies, Lord Jesus 

As a Believer, we are to 

1 Thessalonians 5:15 Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else. 

Psalms 7:5 then, let my enemy pursue me, let him overtake me, and let him trample my life to the ground. Interlude Let him put my honor into the dust. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:5 Please have Mercy on Me when You correct Me, Lord Jesus and do not let my Enemies Correct Me when I break your Commands 

These are solemn words that David spoke to God. We all have sin and continue to sin and go to the Father and ask forgiveness.  We are His Saint, part of the Body and future Bride of our Lord, Jesus. 

1 John 3:21-22 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God.  (22)  Whatever we request we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. 

What sin have we done against others, probably gossip, not praying for someone when asked to, not helping out the Brethren when we can, etc. 

Are we guilty of the crimes laid to my charge by Satan to the Father. 

Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, "Now the salvation, the power, the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah have come. For the one who accuses our brothers, who accuses them day and night in the presence of our God, has been thrown out. 

Romans 8:34 Who is the one to condemn? It is the Messiah Jesus who is interceding on our behalf. He died, and more importantly, has been raised and is seated at the right hand of God. 

1 John 2:1-2  My little children, I'm writing these things to you so that you might not sin. Yet if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus, the Messiah, one who is righteous.  (2)  It is he who is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world's.  

The Righteous judgment of Jesus, with a plea for righteous intervention 

Psalms 7:6 Get up, LORD, in your anger! Rise up, because of the fury of my enemies; Arouse yourself for me; you have ordained justice.  

Just Means: Psalms 7:6 Please Protect your Saints, Jesus from the spirit of Satan, My Enemy and Give us Justice as You Promise 

We know Jesus will be angry against those who would persecute the Body of the Messiah. 

Revelation 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 

Luke 18:7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? 

We are in a Spiritual and Physical battle right now.  We know we are not alone in this battle.  One of Satan’s tactics is to make us think that we are in this battle all by ourselves.  

Satan plan is to feed lies to our minds, isolate each of us, and speak half-truths to each of us.  Satan instigates government officials against the Saints, you and me, with this lockdown of business and churches.  

John 10:10 The thief {Satan} comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly. 

Hebrews 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. 

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against human opponents, but against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers in the darkness around us, and evil spiritual forces in the heavenly realm. 

The Father does not see my righteousness, what He sees is Jesus righteousness since Jesus lives in us. 

It is a mistake to believe that Jesus is without passions. Because Jesus is God and Man, we can say that Jesus is not cold, distant, and unemotional. 

Psalms 7:7 Let the assembly of the peoples gather around you, and you will sit high above them. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:7 Jesus brings all of your Saints around you, and rules over Us from your Throne on the Right Hand of the Father’s Throne 

Jesus is on the judgment seat, surrounded by the Saints, to hear the just ruler judgment. 

Psalms 7:8 For the LORD will judge the peoples. Judge me according to my righteousness, LORD, and according to my integrity, Exalted One. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:8  Jesus will Judge the Nations and will have Mercy in His Saints Favor because Jesus Lives in Us O Most High 

We should honestly invite Jesus graces correction in our lives. 

Hebrews 12:6-7 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he punishes every son he accepts."  (7)  What you endure disciplines you: God is treating you as sons. Is there a son whom his father does not discipline? 

Psalms 7:9 Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. For you are the righteous God who discerns the inner thoughts.  

Just Means: Psalms 7:9 Please Righteous Jesus, bring an End to the

Violence of the Wicked and Establish Your Righteous Saints with Your Covering 

As Saints, we need to search our own hearts to help put us right before Jesus. 

Psalms 7:10 God is my shield, the one who delivers the upright in heart. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:10 Jesus is our Shield and will Saves His Saints who Loves Him and Follows His Commands 

Jesus protects the believer like a military shield, an invisible defense, with our guardian Angels. 

The wicked will not come to an end until the start of the Millennium and then for a very short period at the end of the Millennium. 

1 Peter 5:10  After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you by the Messiah Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you. 

Ephesians 6:16 In addition to having clothed yourselves with these things, having taken up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one, 

Jesus is the just Judge 

Psalms 7:11 God is a righteous judge, a God who is angry {or wrath} with sinners {wicked} every day. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:11 Jesus, You are the Righteous Judge and Condemns your Saints Enemies, the wicked 

2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord {Jesus}, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 

Romans 1:18 For God's {Jesus} wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the ungodliness and wickedness of those who in their wickedness suppress the truth. 

Psalms 7:12 If the ungodly {wicked} one doesn't repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will string his bow and prepare it. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:12 Unless the Wicked Repent, Jesus is Preparing for War with His Sword and Bow 

Jesus is the great warrior of war and is preparing the battle against the wicked who are persecuting against the Saints .  Unless the wicked repent, Jesus will slay the wicked in battle, known as Armageddon.

Psalms 7:13 He {Jesus} has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:13 Jesus instruments of deadly, burning arrows are the means of putting the wicked to death 

Jesus deadly weapons, diseases of various kinds, judgments, and famine, pestilence and war,  4 horsemen. 

The wickedness of the wicked 

Psalms 7:14 Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to lies. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:14 The Wicked Person thinks up evil on others, conceives mischief and practice deception and lies. 

This verse will shows that a wicked heart will show itself by wicked deeds. 

James 1:14-15 Instead, each person is tempted by his own desire, being lured and trapped by it.  (15)  When that desire becomes pregnant, it gives birth to sin; and when that sin grows up, it gives birth to death. 

Jesus will deal with the wicked 

Psalms 7:15 He digs a pit, even excavates it; then he fell into the hole that he had made. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:15 The Wicked Person Digs a Pit and then Falls into the Pit They have Dug. 

The wicked lays a trap to destroy individuals and will not be aware of the wicked plan until it is upon them. Then the wicked will fall into their own trap. 

1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As it says in the book of Job, God uses man’s own brilliance to trap him; he stumbles over his own “wisdom” and falls. 

Psalms 7:16 His trouble shall return upon his own head, And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:16 The Violence the Wicked Plans for Others will come Down Upon His Own Head 

An example of this 

Matthew 27:3-5 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.  (4)  "I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." "What is that to us?" they replied. "That's your responsibility."  (5)  So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. 

Psalms 7:17 But as for me, I will praise the LORD for his righteousness, and I will sing to the name of the LORD Most High. 

Just Means: Psalms 7:17 The Saints gives Thanks and Praise to Righteous Jesus and will Sing Praises to His Name, LORD Most High. 

·      I will praise Jesus for His righteousness in me, for His justice, and His mercy, and above All Things. 

·      We end this on a high note of praise because we took our concerns to Jesus in faith and left it there.

Tears, Does Jesus Save Them?                      May 01, 2021 

We know from Scriptures Jesus has certain things that are particularly important to collect from the Saints, for example, their prayers, and now, Jesus Puts my tears in His bottle and record them in His book? 

Psalms 33:13-14 From heaven the LORD {Jesus} looks down and sees all mankind; (14) from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth 

Revelation 5:8 When the lamb had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders bowed down in front of him. Each held a harp and a gold bowl full of incense, the prayers of the saints. 

Revelation 8:3 Another angel came with a gold censer and stood at the altar. He was given a large quantity of incense to offer on the gold altar before the throne, along with the prayers of all the saints. 

Revelation 8:4 The smoke from the incense and the prayers of the saints went up from the angel's hand to God. 

We find the Father and Lord Jesus collects the prayers of the Saints. 

Ever wonder if by chance, does Jesus collects other things.  We find He does, Tears, both happiness and sadness, tears. 

·      Let me ask, when was the last time you had a cry. 

·      A hard cry or emotional breakdown of someone we loved, and they have died or was hurt badly. 

·      Or a cry of joy or happiness healing or marriage or new baby.   

·      We receive prayers about church families and friends are hurting and especially young ones that tares at our hearts. 

·      The tears, lamenting and weeping bitterly, have we done this in our life. 

·      We hear about someone is healed and the joy that it brings to the family. 

I know deep in my heart, if we lose someone to death, we will see them again in the future when Jesus returns to the earth to set up His Kingdom. But it still hurts with the deep pain in ourselves for missing the love one. 

In my youth, my mother said it was OK, the girls could cry and have tears.  But me, being a boy, she told me that boys or men do not cry.  Huh, Is this familiar with anyone. 

Now when I crash with my bike and skinned up my knee, yes I had tears, tried not to.  Was Jesus was collecting tears from us from an early age? 

When we check the New and Old Testament Scriptures there are many women and men crying with tears.  We know Jesus, was a man of sorrow, had tears, Peter and also Judas had tears. 

Let’s turn to

Psalms 56:8 You have kept count of my wanderings. Put my tears in your bottle; have not you recorded them in your book? 

Jesus just said that He has collected all of our tears and preserved them in a bottle.  Interesting, we will read this verse again at the end. 

We know tears are very important to the Father and our Lord Jesus, because They keep them in a bottle and write them in your book, value our precious tears, whether for joy or sorrow.  

Tears indicate that a person has something within him. They show others that there is a God's work within such a person. 

What does the scriptures say about Tears and how important are they to the Father and our Lord Jesus. 

·      God sees our tears.

·      God is touched by our tears. 

·      God remembers our tears. 

·      God acts to dry our tears. 

Psalms 126:5-6 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.  (6)  Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. 

Isaiah 25:8 he has swallowed up death forever! Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and he will take away the disgrace of his people from the entire earth." for the LORD has spoken. 

What about the Old Testament individuals, examples: 

·      Abraham wept when he buried Sarah.

·      Jacob wept when he wrestled the Angel.

·      David and Jonathan wept together.

·      Hezekiah wept over his sickness.

·      Josiah wept over the sin of his nation.

·      Jeremiah was the weeping prophet. 

Remember, when Zechariah wife, Elizabeth, in her old age, became pregnant with John. 

Luke 1:25 "The Lord has done this for me," she said. "In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people." 

Luke 1:46-49 And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord (47) and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, (48) for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, (49) for the Mighty One has done great things for me; holy is his name. 

When Joseph found Mary was with child, Joseph wanted to divorce Mary on the grounds of infidelity. A divorce would be necessary because they had already made a marriage covenant, even though they had not yet known each other physically. 

Luke 1:58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy. 

What about Mary, Jesus’s mother. In Mary song of Praise to God, she said was very happy and probably had tears. 

Matthew 1:19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. 

Joseph was heartbroken, to say the least.  An angel in a dream to Joseph restores their marriage. 

Matthew 1:20-21 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  (21)  "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." 

When Joseph and Mary head home from the Passover, Jesus, 12, was not there with, they were very worried. 

Luke 2:48 When Jesus' parents saw him, they were shocked. His mother asked him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been worried sick looking for you!" 

When Jesus was missing for days, Mary was worried sick and I am pretty sure there was tears involved.  When our children are out of sight, we become concern.  

King Herod killed all the young children 

Matthew 2:18 "A voice was heard in Ramah: wailing and great mourning. Rachel was crying {or weeping} for her children. She refused to be comforted, because they no longer existed."

These women and men were hurting deeply from the loss of their children. 

Remember the woman who wiped Jesus feet with her tears and her hair. 

Luke 7:37-38 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.  (38)  As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. 

Jesus was touched by her tears. 

Remember when the Pharisees brought the women to Jesus to be killed by stoning.  Do you think this woman would have been, crying uncontrollably, knowing she would be killed by stoning.  

John 8:3 But the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. After setting her before them, 

John 8:11 "No one, sir," she replied. Then Jesus said, "I don't condemn you, either. Go home, and from now on do not sin anymore." 

Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue, had a daughter who just died. 

Luke 8:52-54 Now everyone was crying and wailing for her. But Jesus said, "Stop crying! She's not dead. She's sleeping."  (53)  They laughed and laughed at him, because they knew she was dead.  (54)  But he took her hand and called out, "Young lady, get up!" 

What about the woman who been suffering with chronic bleeding 

Luke 8:43-47 A woman was there who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years. Although she had spent all she had on doctors, no one could heal her.  (44)  She came up behind Jesus and touched the tassel of his garment, and her bleeding stopped at once.  (45)  Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" While everyone was denying it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the crowds are surrounding you and pressing in on you."  (46)  Still Jesus said, "Somebody touched me, because I know that power has gone out of me."  (47)  When the woman saw that she couldn't hide, she came forward trembling. Bowing down in front of him, she explained in the presence of all the people why she had touched Jesus and how she had been instantly healed. 

Do you think she did not have tears of joy for her healing by Jesus. 

John 16:20 Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 

The joy of all who were healed, praised the Father. 

Matthew 15:30-31 Large crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, those unable to talk, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he healed them.  (31)  As a result, the crowd was amazed to see those who were unable to talk speaking, the crippled healed, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. So they praised the God of Israel. 

The raising of the son of the widow of Nain 

Luke 7:13-15 When the Lord saw her, he felt compassion for her. He told her, "You can stop crying."  (14)  Then he went up and touched the bier, and the men who were carrying it stopped. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!"  (15)  The man who had been dead sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. 

There are all types of examples we can used.  

As the soldiers led Jesus to the cross 

Luke 23:27-28 A large crowd of people followed him, including some women who kept mourning and wailing for him.  (28)  But Jesus turned to them and said, "Women of Jerusalem, stop crying for me. Instead, cry for yourselves and for your children, 

How many tears was at the cross, with Jesus Mother and the other women.  The grief would have been unbearable seeing your own son on the cross. 

Tears and weeping turn to joy at the tomb 

John 20:11 Meanwhile, Mary stood crying outside the tomb. As she cried, she bent over and looked into the tomb. 

John 20:13 They asked her, "Lady, why are you crying?" She told them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where they have put him." 

John 20:18  So Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord!" She also told them what he had told her. 

Mark 16:10-11 She went and told those who had been with Jesus and who now were grieving and crying.  (11)  When they heard that he was alive and that he had been seen by her, they refused to believe Mary. 

Men and women, the disciples were grieving and crying.  

Dr Luke wrote 

Acts 9:39-41 So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they took him upstairs. All the widows gathered around Peter, crying and showing him all the shirts and coats Dorcas had made while she was still with them.  (40)  Peter made them all go outside. After kneeling down, he prayed, turned to the body, and said, "Tabitha, get up!" She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.  (41)  He extended his hand and helped her get up. Then he called the saints, including the widows, and gave her back to them alive. 

They were very happy then. 

Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy 

We have this promise from Jesus to each one of us

Revelation 7:17 because the lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd. He will lead them to springs filled with the water of life, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes." 

Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There won't be death anymore. There won't be any grief, crying, or pain, because the first things have disappeared." 

Jesus just told us that there will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, 

The Apostle Paul said: 

Acts 20:19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents. 

Acts 20:31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. 

2 Corinthians 2:4 I wrote to you out of great sorrow and anguish of heart; along with many tears; not to make you sad but to let you know how much love I have for you. 

Jesus does put our tears in a bottle and records this information in His Book.

Did you know there are such a thing as Tear bottles or know as lachrymatory.

Lachrymatory definition means: of, relating to, or causing the shedding of tears. 

Tear bottles were prevalent in ancient Roman times around the time of Jesus, when mourners filled small glass with tears and placed them in burial tombs as symbols of love and respect. Sometimes women were even paid to cry as they walked along the mourning procession. 

One-way mourners would collect their tears by means of wiping their tears with cotton wool and squeezing their tears into the bottle. 

Tear Bottles - These tiny glass vessels have been a part of our world's history since before Christ's time in ancient Rome and Egypt. 

Ancient "tear bottles" have been found by Archaeologists in tombs in Israel. These vessels were used to catch and preserve the owner's tears during times of grief or extreme pressure. 

This is why a Jewish person would understand when Jesus tells us about

Putting my tears in your bottle; and recording it in your book? 

Do a research in the scriptures for tears, wailing, weep, weeping 

Found this subject interesting, tears, never thought about it before. 

So now, when we cry, we know where our tears go and are collected by our Heavenly Father.

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind 

Beggars waited by the gates of the Temple for gifts from worshipers.  He sat and was begging (vs 8) 

Pharisees ask the man over and over again how he received his sight.  They did not believe he was born blind. 

Then the Pharisees call the man’s parents and asked them.  Remember, the parents were called and said the son was of age, ask him. 

Review: 

John 9:22-23 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, since the Jews had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be thrown out of the synagogue.  (23)  That's why his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him." 

It was not just the parents were afraid of the Jews Leaders: 

Many of the rulers in Jerusalem really believed in Jesus, but were afraid to say it because they didn’t want to be cast out of the synagogue. 

John 12:42 Yet many people, even some of the authorities, believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not admit it so they would not be thrown out of the synagogue. 

And example of Old Testament Excommunication, marrying foreign wives.  If excommunicated, they were treated as if they were lepers.

Today society, it does not mean anything. 

Ezra 10:8 Whoever would not come within three days would forfeit his assets and be separated from the community of the returning exiles, just as the high officials and elders had advised.

The religious leaders again question the man born blind, now healed by Jesus, at the Sanhedrin Council. 

The man born blind; his simple testimony upset the Pharisees. 

John 9:24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner." 

“Give God the praise” is a form of Jewish “swearing in” at court.  Means, remember that you are in God’s presence and speak as unto God. 

This command to the healed man may be for him to tell the truth, or it may be a command to deny any credit to Jesus in the healing. The Pharisees felt the man was holding something back which would show Jesus was a sinner. 

The Pharisees said Jesus is a sinner because Jesus did not obey their man-made traditions around the law.    

Joshua 7:19 Then Joshua said to Achan, "My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me." 

But the “judges” prejudiced everybody from the start! “We know that this Man is a sinner!” 

John 9:25 He answered and said, "Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see." 

The man’s faith just gave his testimony, speaks to the facts and to the Pharisees about what happen to him.

Pharisees could not argue against what Jesus did in this man’s life. 

As a believer, we do not base our faith on personal experience, we base it upon Jesus’s truth, revealed to us in the Bible and through the Holy Spirit. 

Yet, our experience in the work of God in our lives is very important support for our faith for us and to the faith of others.  By our example. 

John 9:26 Then they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?" 

·      Like a lawyer trying to disprove the testimony of a witness, they tried once more to shake the evidence, to entrap him somehow. 

·      The tone implies a harsh, intense talking down to him. 

·      The Pharisee demanded answers from this man who now could see. 

John 9:27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?" 

·      The man born blind reacts to the intense questioning again.

·      The man impatience just breaks out with the same question a fourth time with what he told the Pharisees.

·      Losing his patience with people who would not believe the facts before them, the man refused to relate the events again, saying sarcastically, “Do you also want to become His disciple?”

·      The man just proclaimed himself to be a disciple of Jesus (do you also). 

John 9:28 At this, they turned on him in fury and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses! 

·      Interesting, We are Moses’ disciples - By this they meant that they were genuine Pharisees; for they did not allow the Sadducees to be disciples of Moses? 

·      They Acknowledge the authority of the law of Moses.  

·      They cursed the blind man with abuse. 

John 9:29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this fellow comes from." 

·      The Pharisees knew Jesus parents, Joseph and Mary, and his brothers and sisters, and we know He is a sinner from birth.

·      When the religious leaders said, this fellow, they could not keep from displaying their own proud and prejudiced contempt of Jesus. 

John 9:30 The man answered and said to them, "Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! 

·      Why, that’s very strange! He can heal blind men, and yet you don’t know anything about him!

·      That you cannot perceive that he who has performed such a miracle must be from God.

·      Marvelous thing:  about the Pharisees unbelief in Jesus or about His miracles. 

John 9:31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. 

Psalms 66:18 If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear; 

Isaiah 1:15 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! 

·      Jesus does not have to hear the prayers of a sinner.

·      Yet, in Jesus mercy and for to purpose of bring someone to repentance, Jesus may hear the unrepentant sinner. 

·      This is why we need to repent of our sins. 

John 9:32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. 

There is no healing of a blind man recorded anywhere in the Old Testament.  This was a greater miracle that we might think.  The first surgical operation to restore eye sight to the blind was 1728. 

Jesus is called a Man from God 

John 9:33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing." 

John 9:34 They asked him, "You were born a sinner and you are trying to instruct us?" And they threw him out. 

·      The Pharisees despise the common people and could not answer the man’s arguments {inspired by the Holy Spirit}.   

·      They could excommunicate him, which they did,

·      They threw him out and from any religious rights in the Temple and synagogue. 

This is what came to mind reading these verses 

Matthew 10:19-20 When they hand you over, don't worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say, because in that hour what you are to say will be given to you.  (20)  It won't be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 

Jesus is called the son of God 

John 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"   {the Messiah} 

·      Notice Jesus knew what happen and made a point to  sought out the man to revealed himself to him. 

·      The man had lost his world but found the Lord, Jesus. 

·      Ask yourself this very common question being asked: 

·      "Do you believe in the Son of God?"   {Jesus, the Messiah}. 

·      It is a question for commitment and demands a personal decision in the face of opposition or rejection. 

·      We ask this to ourselves at the Passover Season each year. 

John 9:36 He answered and said, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" 

Faith must have a proper direction to, which is Jesus, but not faith, only Jesus can saves us. Faith is only the direction to Lord Jesus. 

John 9:37-38 Jesus told him, "You have seen him. He is the person who is talking with you."  (38)  He said, "Lord, I do believe," and worshiped him. 

Example: The man believes with the heart, confesses with the mouth, and shows his faith by his worship and honor of Jesus. 

The fact that Jesus accepted this worship is another proof that Jesus is God and Jesus knew Himself to be God. 

This is one of four instances in Gospel of John when Jesus expressly declared His Divine Sonship (Jn 9:37; 5:25; 10:36; 11:4). 

What steps did the blind man go through showing his increasing awareness of Jesus in His life. 

1.   Jesus is a man {vs 11};

2.   Jesus is a prophet {vs 17};

3.   Jesus is my Master, I am His disciple {vs 27};

4.   Jesus is from God {vs 33};

5.   Jesus is the Son of God {vs 35-38};

6.   Jesus is who I trust {vs 38};

7.   Jesus is who I worship {vs 38}. 

Jesus now compares between those who are blind and those who can see 

John 9:39 Then Jesus said, "I have come into this world to judge it, so that those who are blind may see and so that those who see may become blind." 

Jesus came to judge every individuals that the blind might see and those who think they can see will be made blind.  Faith. 

John 9:40-41 Some of the Pharisees who were near him overheard this and asked him, "We aren't blind, too, are we?"  (41)  Jesus told them, "If you were blind, you would not have any sin. But now that you insist, 'We see,' your sin still exists." 

What do you make of this statement by Jesus:  "If you were blind, you would not have any sin {or guilty of sin} 

The Pharisees understood Jesus was speaking in the spiritual sense to them.  Their sin of unbelief who Jesus is, because they could not see the Son of God right in front of them.  

Interesting, Pharisees did become disciples of Jesus as we learn in the Book of Acts. 

The Pharisees claim to possess light, while rejecting Jesus, is that which seals them up in the guilt of unbelief. 

The blind man ends up seeing, not just physically, but spiritually and becomes a disciple.  Could he be one of the 120 in the upper room.
