Explain “Sacerdotalism.” What examples are there today?

Sacerdotalism  by definition is “religious belief emphasizing the powers of priests as essential mediators between God and humankind and literally means to make sacred.  It is saying that a priest are essential mediators between God and man.  Some church groups believe people cannot approach God on their own and need someone to be a mediator for them.

This belief is completely contrary to what the scriptures tells us in Heb 4, that we “have a great high priest” “Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.” Jesus our Lord is our High Priest and He intercedes for us to the Father.  This is the only High Priest we need.

Blessing

Stephen

(Heb 4:14-16 NIV)  Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. {15} For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. {16} Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

(Heb 7:24-27 NIV)  but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. {25} Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. {26} Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. {27} Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

(Heb 9:11-12 NIV)  When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. {12} He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

(Rom 8:34 NIV)  Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
