Mother’s
Day 2017 May
13, 2017
Mother’s
Days are very meaningful to many individuals.
What does Mother Day mean to you. No right or wrong answer.
It
should be every day of the year, but we need to be reminded to do it. That is what this day is all about.
We know being a mom is not easy. It is very appropriate and right to pause and
say ''Thank You'' to our mothers, or individuals who were like mothers to us, and
to honor them, and thank God for them.
You realize what they had to do
and how to put up with us, as we grew up.
I know that Mother's Day can be a very difficult
day for some of us. For lots of different reasons. My mother is no longer
alive, and I still miss her. I wish I
could talk with her. And others who were
like a mother to me.
When
was the last time have we prayed for our mothers. That is what our mothers have done for us and
our families and her grandchildren all the times.
·
Mother's Day is traditionally the day when children give
something back to their mothers for:
·
Wash our dirty faces
·
The noses they wiped
·
All the bloody knees they 'made well' with their kisses.
·
Driving kids to school when they missed the bus
·
Enduring all those football & soccer games in the
rain (include Grandkids)
·
Making our children finish something they said they
couldn't do
·
Sharing their good times & their bad."
·
Mothers are our teachers
·
Mothers correct disciplinarians
·
Mothers are cleaning ladies
·
Mothers are gardeners & mowers of lawns
·
Mothers are nurses & doctors & psychologists
& counselors & chauffeurs & coaches.
·
Mothers are developers of personalities
·
Molders of vocabularies
·
Shapers of attitudes
·
Mothers are soft voices saying, "I love you."
·
Most Important One:
Mothers are a link to God, a child's first impression of God's love.
Mothers are
all these things & much, much more
We all have heard this or read it before, so I
thought you'd enjoy this list of things with all of us about our mothers taught
us:
My
Mother taught me LOGIC: ''If you fall off that swing and break your
neck, you can't go to the store with me,'' as well as, ''If everyone else
jumped off a cliff would you do it too?''
My Mother taught me HUMOR: ''When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me.''
My Mother taught me GENETICS: ''You are just like your father!''
My
Mother taught me ANTICIPATION: ''Just wait until your father gets
home.''
My
Mother taught me about RECEIVING: ''You are going to get it when I
get you home.''
My
Mother taught me RELIGION: ''You better pray that will come out of
the carpet.''
My
Mother taught me about STAMINA: ''You'll sit there until all that
spinach is finished.''
My
Mother taught me THE CIRCLE OF LIFE: ''I brought you into this
world, and I can take you out.''
My
Mother taught me, JUSTICE: ''One day you will have kids, and I hope
they turn out just like you. Then you'll see what it's like! I can't wait!''
Let’s
see what does the Scriptures tell us about Mother:
Jesus tells us, Honor Your Mother (said 3 times)
Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord,
for this is right. (2) "HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,"
which is the first commandment with promise:
(3) "THAT IT MAY BE WELL
WITH YOU AND YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE
EARTH."
Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother,
that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
Deuteronomy 5:16
'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded
you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land
which the LORD your God is giving you.
Jesus Takes Care Of His Mother, show His love
for her
John 19:24-27 They said therefore among themselves,
"Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be," that
the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "THEY DIVIDED MY GARMENTS
AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CAST LOTS." Therefore the soldiers
did these things.
(25) Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His
mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary
Magdalene. (26) When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the
disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold
your son!" (27) Then He said to the disciple, "Behold
your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
Bad
example by the Pharisees – Corban, if someone did not want to help
support his aging parents, he would announce “Korban
Mark 7:9-13 He said to them, "All too well
you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.
(10) For Moses said, 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR
MOTHER'; and, 'HE WHO CURSES FATHER OR MOTHER, LET HIM BE PUT TO DEATH.'
(11) But you say, 'If a man says to his father or
mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is
Corban"—' (that is, a gift to
God),
(12) then you no longer let him
do anything for his father or his mother,
(13) making the word of God of no
effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things
you do."
Matthew 15:5-6 But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or
mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to
God"— (6) then he need not honor his father or mother.'
Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
Grandmother
and mother example and teaching of Timothy
2 Timothy 1:1-7 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the
will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, (2) To
Timothy, a beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and
Christ Jesus our Lord. (3) I thank God, whom I serve with a pure
conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember
you in my prayers night and day,
(4) greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of
your tears, that I may be filled with joy,
(5) when I call to remembrance
the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois
and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. (6)
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you
through the laying on of my hands.
(7) For God has not given us a
spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Women
are teachers and instructors
Titus 2:1-5 But as for you, speak the things which are
proper for sound doctrine: (2) that the older men be sober, reverent,
temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; (3)
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not
slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— (4) that they admonish the young women to love
their husbands, to love their children,
(5) to be discreet, chaste,
homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not
be blasphemed.
What
happens when we disobey our Mothers
Deuteronomy 27:16 'Cursed is the one who treats his
father or his mother with contempt.' "And all the people shall say,
'Amen!'
Proverbs 20:20
Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in
deep darkness.
Proverbs 30:17 The eye that mocks his
father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley
will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it.
Things
we need to pay attention about our Mothers
Proverbs 1:8-9 My son, hear the instruction of your
father, And do not forsake the law of your mother; (9)
For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, And chains
about your neck.
Proverbs 6:20-21 My son, keep your father's command, And do
not forsake the law of your mother.
(21) Bind them continually upon
your heart; Tie them around your neck.
Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, But the
foolish pulls it down with her hands.
Proverbs 15:20 A
wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish man despises his mother.
Proverbs 19:26-27 He who mistreats his father and
chases away his mother Is a son who causes shame and brings
reproach. (27) Cease listening to instruction, my son, And
you will stray from the words of knowledge.
Proverbs 23:22-25 Listen to your father who begot you, And do
not despise your mother when she is old.
(23) Buy the truth, and do not
sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.
(24) The father of the righteous will greatly
rejoice, And he who begets a wise child will delight in him. (25)
Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her who bore you
rejoice.
Proverbs 29:15 The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child
left to himself brings shame to his mother.
The Woman Who Fears the Lord, this is our
mothers and mothers of our children.
This is what God says a mother is to do.
It says husband, but is also applies to mothers and her children, for
the family.
Proverbs 31:10-31 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth
is far above rubies. (11) The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
(12) She does him good and not
evil All the days of her life. (13) She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works
with her hands. (14) She is like the merchant ships, She brings
her food from afar. (15) She also rises while it is yet night, And
provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants.
(16) She considers a field and buys it; From her
profits she plants a vineyard. (17) She girds herself with strength, And
strengthens her arms. (18) She perceives that her merchandise is
good, And her lamp does not go out by night.
(19) She stretches out her hands
to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle.
(20) She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she
reaches out her hands to the needy.
(21) She is not afraid of snow
for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet. (22)
She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and
purple. (23) Her husband is known in the gates, When he
sits among the elders of the land.
(24) She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
(25) Strength and honor are
her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come.
(26) She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her
tongue is the law of kindness.
(27) She watches over the ways of
her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
(28) Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
(29) "Many daughters have
done well, But you excel them all."
(30) Charm is deceitful
and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall
be praised. (31) Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let
her own works praise her in the gates.
Did you know:
Paul remembers a woman who was like a mother to him.
Romans
16:13 Greet
Rufus, the one chosen by the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me,
too.
Let’s
remember our Mothers and those who has been like mothers to us on this Mother’s
day. Even thinking of those who have
passed away. It is still a blessing to have
our Mothers with us today and we can talk with them. Most of us will have to wait until the
resurrection to visit and talk with our mothers again.
