Discuss the significance of the cities of refuge. In what way(s) is Jesus our city of refuge?

When Jesus gave the land allotment to the Nation of Israel, the tribe of Levi did not inherit any land.  What the Levi tribe did receive was 48 cities through the Nation with a small section outside the cities.  Then 6 of the 48 cities were designated as cities of refuge.  A place of safety where someone could go in case there what could be considered manslaughter.  They could find sanctuary in this city and could not leave until the death of the High Priest.  Jesus is our sanctuary and High Priest today and we know it will be for all time since Jesus cannot die.

Jesus:

·      is my refuge in life

·      covers me a sinner from the penalty of death

·      knows my infirmities

·      knows how I have been tempted in my life

·      I can come before the throne of grace and obtain mercy

·      intercede for me to the Father

·      is the light that leads me as I follow His Way of Life

·      is faithful and just and will forgive me

·      make me righteous before our Father

·      sent the comforter that gives me comfort

·      will bring all things to my remembrance.

Blessing

(Heb 6:18 KJV) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

(Heb 4:14-16 KJV) Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. {15} For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. {16} Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

(Heb 7:24-25 NIV) but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. {25} Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

(1 John 1:7-9 NIV) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. {8} If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. {9} If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

(John 14:26 KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
