What Language did Paul used when he address the people in Acts 22:2. ?

I give up trying to understand what language did Paul used when he address the people in Acts 22:2.  I ASKED, what did the scriptures say what language.  KJV used the word, Hebrew, but the NIV used Aramaic.  I know there have been discussions on this in the past.  Is the OT written in Hebrew or Aramaic.  The word used is Hebrais, which is the Hebrew language.  The Lexicon says Hebrew and many other translations says Hebrew.  Very few translations into English use Aramaic as you can see from below.  I believe the important word here is “more” quiet.  The ISV says Hebrew, this version is suppose to be very good.  They had to concentrate on what he was saying, so Paul had to be speaking in Hebrew (Church language) because if it was Aramaic (common language), they could understand him.  Oh well, it is just a guess, who really knows.  Blessing

Stephen

(Acts 22:2 KJV)  (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

(Acts 22:2 NIV)  When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic, they became very quiet. Then Paul said:

(Acts 21:40 KJV)  And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

Hebrew:  1446. Hebrais, heb-rah-is'; from G1443; the Hebraistic (i.e. Hebrew) or Jewish (Chaldee) language:--Hebrew.

(Act 22:2  ISV).  When they heard him speaking to them in Hebrew, they became even more quiet, and he continued:

More:  3123. mallon, mal'-lon; neut. of the compar. of the same as G3122; (adv.) more (in a greater degree) or rather:--+ better, X far, (the) more (and more), (so) much (the more), rather.
